My Week 4 Comments on Deion Sanders

I keep telling myself Colorado is a Big 12 school and then I remember Colorado is a Pac-12 school. If the current Colorado team was playing in the Big 12 today, they'd go far and potentially win the conference. An offensive line would make this team a championship contender. There is a respectable offense sulking within the current Colorado team. This is a holdover of the foundation Coach Prime built at Jackson State. Coach Sanders and his WellOff Media staff brought revised the media attention on HBCU Football, which was neglected for many years.

Colorado has a recruiting problem - not a coaching problem. A team that is only 7-8 players away from being a championship contender must blame the recruiting pipeline. Solicitation, location and motivation - these are the things required to recruit in the modern era. The pipeline of players to Colorado must be blamed. Colorado’s existing recruiting staff was unable to meet the needs of the team and staff on the field. Deion briefly removed recruiting barriers while at Jackson State. We have to wonder - are the athletes who picked another school over Jackson State or Colorado - in a better playing situation?

Earning the commitment of talent players to live in Boulder, CO will be Coach Primes toughest battle. Colorado is in an area that will deter some recruits. Life in the outskirts of Denver will not appeal to every available talented player. There are schools in better locations, promising more than football to players in the NIL-era. Deion & the Colorado recruiting staff need a revised recruiting strategy, immediately. In my opinion, recruitment will be the most important KPI of Coach Primes tenure going forward - talented players and their families will learn to appreciate his coaching style for years to come.
