Opening Weekend Box Office Prediction - Avengers Endgame - The First $1 Billion Dollar Opening Weekend?
There's a lot of buzz flying around in the box office community about the ability of Avengers: Endgame to earn $800+ Billion dollars during the opening weekend. Now more than ever Endgame is shaping up to be a worldwide event - a possible billion-dollar film release. I believe we are walking into uncharted territory - we don't know how much money this movie can make in one weekend. But if you look at the what's happening we can make an educated guess.
Entertainment marketing is not as cut and dry as people think. There is a psychological component to getting the "hype" films, albums, tv shows, etc. need to truly be successful. In today's crowded environment, fighting for the attention and money from consumers is competitive. Endgame is the most anticipated film of 2019 and is the sequel to the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War. Protagonists died. Children cried. People were startled. No one really knew what to expect walking into Infinity War! Getting people out of couches, into theaters. and talking about a movie isn't a small task these days. I'm excited because millions of people are ready to see Endgame.
All over the world people are buying Tickets for Avengers: Endgame. In India, Endgame has 600,000+ upvotes on BookMyShow - the largest ticket-buying platform in the country. In the United States, Avengers: Endgame is outselling Infinity War tickets 5 to 1 and beat the same day-presale record set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In one hour, Endgame sold more tickets than the first day sales of Infinity War in Brazil. Even in The UK, they're predicting the all-time record will be broken. 2 Weeks after Infinity War opened in the rest of the world, China still managed to gross $199 Million in those first few days. Now that it's virtually impossible for people to avoid spoilers I believe even more people will go see Endgame in China.
Tickets for Endgame have been on sale for a little bit over a week and we're starting to see predictions come in. We're in the age where a $1 billion dollar opening weekend is possible. I believe Avengers: Endgame will raise eyebrows every day during the opening weekend. I think some of the $800 Million Dollar predictions are too conservative, but $1 Billion dollar predictions are too lofty. Considering how many tickets have been sold and how many people are talking about the film, my current speculation is that Avengers: Endgame will generate between $883 Million to $930 Million Dollars worldwide during the opening weekend*.
