An Early Box Office Prediction — Us by Jordan Peele

Box office predictions for 'Us' are starting to come in, but I think they are low ball estimates. Jordan Peele, Lupita Nyogo and Winston Duke are superstars that can catapult the genre into the next decade. I predict that 2019 will be a great year for horror films at the box office and US will lead the way.

Good horror films are hard to come by. Jordan Peele's twists on our natural human emotions should attract an older than expected crowd to theaters. There is some unpredictability at play here due to the success of Get Out. People are excited to see Jordan Peeles second film, he is a phenomenal talent. Mr. Peele has a half-dozen projects in development and even more that he's associated with.

Horror films are going to be hot in 2019 and this will be an upward year for the genre. 'IT' had an opening weekend box office of $123M in 2017. During the same year, Get Out had an opening weekend of $33 Million during the same year. The final domestic gross for Get Out was $176 Million. This strong 5.2 multiplier for the performance of Get Out indicates great word of mouth for the film.

The marketing for 'US' started just over an entire quarter out and social media reactions are positive. The decision by Universal to release this on Christmas was very strategic. Christmas is typically a day where most people as simply lounging and musing with their family. What else can you do on a holiday when conversations get dull and kids have opened their gifts — get on social media and watch a trailer.

Prediction: 'Us' by Jordan Peel will have an opening weekend in the US of $75+ Million.
