Early Deadpool 2 Box Office Predictions

This summers release of DeadPool 2 has high expectations. 2016's release of the original Deadpool had a worldwide box office total of $783,112,979. Some people in various box office forums believe these results can be repeated. I do not think DP2 will outgross 2016's Deadpool.

My box office prediction for Deadpool 2 is a worldwide gross just north of $650 Millon (slightly above Logan's worldwide total). On the low end, Deadpool 2 could generate anywhere between $400-600 Worldwide. I'm bearish on the Deadpool 2 May 18th release I'm not confident DP2 can retain the eyeballs of 2016's audience.

The first film did well a Valentine's Day weekend release and strong word of mouth. In a summer of major blockbuster movies, Deadpool 2 has become another pitstop in 2018's box office schedule. This isn't a February release with a lack of competition that DP1 was able to benefit from and summer 2018 is filled with many adversaries.

I expect Deadpool will struggle to perform domestically going into market 3 weeks after Avengers: Infinity War. If I recall correctly, this is the first time two Marvel properties are scheduled to be released in theaters within 3 weeks of each other. I do want to point out that the under-performance of Deadpool 2 is not a result of "comic book fatigue" it's just bad date in a crowded summer box office schedule that includes Solo: A Star Wars Story, Oceans 8 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

There is some speculation that Avengers Infinity War will be RATED-R, but this has not been verified yet. My theory is that two Rated R comic book films in a short time frame will cannibalize the 'family friendly' audience that is used to multiple  blockbuster comic book films rated PG or PG-13 throughout the summer. If both of these films are Rated-R, expect those family friendly dollars to make their way to the opening weekend of The Incredibles 2. I don't want to make a prediction on that Incredibles 2 yet, but it will be a huge film.

Anyway, here are my early Deadpool 2 box office predictions:

Low: $425 Million
Expectation: $650 Million
Max: $750 Million
