Blerd Observations — January 13th, 2018

This wind chill is for the birds. I am ready for it to get warm up, I hope you are too. The one redeeming quality about the winter is using every combination of clothing in your closet to stay warm (and fashionable). There is an indescribable comfort that comes from stepping indoors from frigid weather. I am thankful for that privilege.

In other news, I would like to encourage you to sign up for MoviePass. It’s basically Netflix, but for going to the movies. You pay $9.99 a month to watch 1 film per day at most major movie theaters. I’ve seen several films since joining the program and it’s only cost me $20. Moviepass so affordable, it almost too good to be true. By the time you read this, I will probably be at the movie theather. Check out the details at MoviePass.com.

If you do enjoy watching films, go check out Proud Mary with Taraji P Henson while it's in theaters. I saw it at my local AMC yesterday and enjoyed the film. Let's consider is an exercise in supporting black films regardless of the genre. I look forward to reading your thoughts on Black Panther when it hits theaters.

Static was one cool dude.
In the spirit of discussing Black Superheroes, I wanted to give a word on Black Lightning. I'm going to watch the first season. If the show is good, I will keep watching, if not I I'll stop. Most of the DC Television properties are hit or miss – my favorite DC show on The CW was Arrow for a bit. I'm all for bringing more comic book charters of color to film, but I really wish they went with Static Shock. The WB Static Shock cartoon was the reason I got into comic books.  I'm sure there are others like me. Static Shock was a decade ahead of its time and deserves more appreciation.

Raw 25 is two weeks away. Hears to hoping WWE doesn't prop The Undertaker up for a WrestleMania program this year. The storylines haven't been good for years.

These are just a few thoughts I wanted to put into the world. So many good things have been happening lately. I've been defying my own expectations. Tune into Black Lightning and go see Proud Mary while it's in theaters (but you could probably wait for the Redbox).

P.S. — The trailer for Breaking In starring Gabrielle Union is off the chain. I’ve added this to my 2018 watch list.
