Girls Trip (2017) - Black Nerd Movie Review

Girls Trip - 2017 Film |
Regina Hall plays Ryan Pearce, a rising household figure struggling with her professional image while battling severe marriage issues. Mike Colter (known for his role in Netflix's Luke Cage) plays Stewart - Ryan Pearce's unfaithful husband. The supporting cast in Girls Trip, including Tiffany Hadish & Jada Pinkett Smith, keep the laughs rolling throughout the film. There's also plenty of cameos by other black entertainers that will make you think "They really got [them] to appear in this film?!"
Girls Trip focuses on friendship and loyalty between strong black women. I would describe Girls Trip as a tame version of The Hangover, because of a couple of unexpected moments that solidify the movies R rating. It's good seeing these black women share the silver screen because of the Black Girl Magic this film illustrates. There's a powerful discussion among the four friends about the emotional challenges that come with the difficulty of getting pregnant - a topic that's discussed seldom in black culture.
The themes of loyalty and friendship make Girl Trip one of the "must see" black films of 2017. I give Girls Trip a 7/10 because of the movie's reliance on slang and pop culture references that will fall to the wayside with time. Check out the trailer below from IMDB.com!
