The Crate Dive (January 2017)

This post originally appeared on Dave's Music Bin.

I've been browsing SoundCloud & Apple Music quite a bit. I haven't heard anything groundbreaking recently. I enjoyed Culture by Migos on Apple Music - the trio has pretty much mastered their sound. I hope Offset, Quavo & Takeoff all drop solo projects so we can see how they stand alone.

Here are five songs that I've come across that have grabbed my attention lately:

Kandi by Dave B

Last night Dave B dropped this new track. Every piece he's dropped has kept me consistently impressed. I'm optimistic that you'll like Kandi too. Check out Dave B's last project Tomorrow on SoundCloud.

Brown Paper Bag by Migos

Migos dropped culture on Thursday night and we get a chance at watching the whole crew do what they do best. Brown Paper Bag isn't the strongest track on Culture, but I genuinely enjoy it. Using the classic triplet pattern, Offset makes "Smashing-your-hoe-on-the-low-and-she calling me Dad" sound like singular word and not a phrase effortlessly.

Bullsh*t by Matty Owens

M.O. provides some solid bars in 1:45. The freestyle is political. Considering the political environment, I appreciate the critique M.O. provides about reality. Don't let the cover fool you into the thinking this track is 16 bars of Donald Trump disses.

Move On by Dakk

My pal RJ, sent 'Move On' by Dakk over to me. Dakk sounds like a talented guy I'll keep tabs on moving forward. The flow here is familiar, but I think the production by the Memba music team takes this sound to another level. Each of the highs, provide an intense counter balance on the lows of the track. The layering and mix on this production turn this song into a must download track.

Shotgun in Honolulu by Bené Dela

This track is pretty smooth – the beat rides. I don't know much about this artist outside of this track. It's worth a couple of plays. Until next time, follow me on Twitter @dtheblerd for more of my thoughts about music, news, and politics, too.
